Hello!

I was looking for a long time to find an IMAP Idle compatible email client for my WM2003, and now I suddenly found this "vgsmail for pocketpc". I installed it, and the first tests seem ok! However, a few questions:

- why do we need to install two separate files? (transport & client) What is the purpose of each, and can they be used separately?

- am I right that this program is not really a "client", but rather a shell around Pocket Outlook to make it IMAP Idle compatible?

- When I set it up, I entered a new profile in vgsmail. Does this profile needs to have the same name as the profile in Pocket Outlook? I noticed this profile doesn't get stored in Pocket Outlook. What's it used for?

- I did some test, and new emails were indeed immediately delivered to my Pocket Outlook (+ I got a message pop-up with "new mail"). However, when I manually checked my email then with Pocket Outlook, it downloaded a second version of that same email (one with "trail" in the subject, and one without). Is that normal?

- when I click on "vgsmail setup", it says "vgsmail client is currently running"; but when I close this "vgsmail client", the "vgsmail setup" give the error "your profile appears to be incompatible with the current version of vgsmail" (! I only used one version of vgsmail...). How can I see the profile I entered in vgsmail?

Not sure were the developer is, but I'm sure he'll chime in eventually...

I can try to best impersonate hime and give some answers

1) the transport and client are seperate and there are different releases for each. Why? I imagine the transport is a more general WM5 feature whereas the client is more specific to the device. Also, I'm going to assume it's easier for the developer to seperate them for testing purposes. If we get to a 1.0 official release, I bet they will be combined.

2) About it being a shell arournd pOutlook: I think this is quite true (and hence why I like it!)

3) Profile name: no, consider this it's own independent email account and call is something different e.g. "Gmail-PUSH" as opposed to maybe your regular "Gmail" account or the default Oulook. It acts as a completely seperate email account that syncs via IMAP.

4) the issue with downloading two copies: sounds like you have two accounts, both accessing the same mailbox, one being VGSMail, the other being POP3 or activesync. You don't need both. So in the non-VGSmail, disable the auto check or do not sync it manually--no need.

5) the incompatible error: do a log and maybe send it to the developer. not sure what to say as I can shut down and modify my profile with no issues (regardless of version).

Thanks for your reply! I've been reading some more in this forum, and if I understand correctly, it's best to create profiles only from the vgsmail setup application, and not from pOutlook anymore? Pity this is not mentioned on http://www.vgsmail.com/ppc

I guess things were messed up in my pocketpc, so I restored my pocketpc to the situation before I installed vgsmail (using Sprite Backup). Then I deleted my pOutlook profiles, and installed vgsmail again (this time the beta versions). I created a new profile using vgsmail setup. However, when I click on vgsmail control, there are four checkmark boxes shown for a few seconds, and then it's closing down again. It seems it has a fatal error to start. When I start vgsmail setup now, it says "could not create MAPI profile"

I really would like to try this program, but I can't seem to install it properly

Ok people, I really need some help here please, as I am desperate to get this thing working...

I finally did a hard reset of my WM2003 device, hoping that this would solve my problem - but it did not

After the hard reset, I installed the beta transport and then the beta vgsmail. Same story as above: I created a new profile using vgsmail setup. But when I click on vgsmail control, there are four checkmark boxes shown for a few seconds, and then it's closing down again. It seems it has a fatal error to start. When I start vgsmail setup, it says "could not create MAPI profile". So I am stuck here...

When you see those 4 check boxes real quickly and it "shuts down" did you look in the lower right hand corner? e.g. the task tray?

You should see a little icon w/green in the corner. What happens is the program minimizes itself on startup, hence the "disapearing" action.

If you click on that VGSMail icon, you'll open up the VGSMail Control.

Green means connected. Yellow/Red means it's connecting or trying to connect.

If you don't have the icon at all then that's a different story.

Installed fine. Ran setup once. Fails thereafter. "Fatal Error Could not create MAPI profile"

same problem, device is a MDA II with WM 2003, cannot create MAPI profile, installation seems to run successfully, but vgsmail setup says Fatal Error "Could not create MAPI profile"

I just had an interesting situation similar to Beanio:

I had a hard reset and as I was setting up, I installed VGSmail, both the DEV releases.

I installed, setup and same thing happened as Beanio: Program launches, all 4 check marks appear...but the client disappears! I soft-reset numerous times, each failing to load.

So I ended up going back to the older releases (for both) and THAT worked.

Then I upgraded to the newer clients (DEV) and it's been working fine.

So I guess the question to all of you (and important for noting bugs!): What versions are you running?

OK, I just reinstalled the "normal" version... I setup a new profile with "vgsmail setup". Unfortunately still the same problem!

When I start "vgsmail control": I see three checkmarks for a short while and then it stops. When I start "vgsmail setup": "Could not create MAPI profile"... In Pocket Outlook there is NO new profile added.

"Upgraded" to "dev" version: exactly the same problem (( (I just see four checkboxes quickly now, instead of three, for a few seconds)
