I was reading in the SMS portion of the forums a topic called "Goodbye to Vgsmail".
So, now after coming across the program today and liking it I read that message. Is that post correct? Does that mean one can no longer purchase a license?
Thanks

I was wondering the same thing. There hasn't been a new release in 3 weeks, although I'm still experiencing some bugs I was hoping would be fixed soon. _________________ Sprint Apache PPC-6700 |

I'm fairly positive you can still purcahse a license..at least I did about a week ago.
I hope it still continues to work as it's working perfectly for me (send/receive attachments, very fast, works everytime, etc.)!
I never recieved a code or anything, the program just became activated. |

I think there is a little confusion here! Hope I can help. Please be aware these are just my impressions as an active forum user and are in no way an official or definitive statement on behalf of anyone!
The company named Visual Geometry Solutions provides computer consulting services.
A member of the VGS team is Dr. Geoffrey Cross. He has at least two additional projects under the vgsmail name. One is an email to SMS (text message) gateway service. This appears to be a service which is gradually winding down. Part of the vgsmail forum is reserved for the SMS project.
Dr. Cross has also written a Push Email client for Windows Mobile Pocket PC devices, also under the vgsmail name. One might refer to this as vgsmail/ppc. This client has a supported release and is still undergoing active development, as is usual with any actively supported product. This includes performance improvements and feature enhancements. The development versions are made available for download at Dr. Cross's discretion.
One should not infer that just because there has not been an update for 3 weeks (or any other period of time) that the product is not still being further developed. Three weeks is not long in the scheme of things!
There is great interest in Push Email and the vgsmail/ppc client. I would expect that it will continue to undergo active development and ongoing support for sometime to come. I am certain you can buy license (please be sure to try the trial first) and please do so to support the ongoing development!
Any limitations on the SMS service are completely separate to the Push Email client for PPC. _________________ i-mate JAM PM10C WM2003SE

Yes, flamingcrumb is completely right.
The SMS service provided by vgsmail is in the process of 'closing down', but that has no effect on the push-email client.
Originally I was releasing new push-email clients as soon as they were developed, but that got a lot of criticism because people (rightly) accused me of using them as beta testers. So then I moved to having two releases; a dev and a 'stable' release. However that doesn't seem to have quietened the complaints and so I have now moved to a much slower release schedule in an attempt to make even the dev releases more stable.
So that's why nothing has been released over the last 3 weeks; I have a number of new developments running and testing, but you'll have to wait until they are tested before I release them. I promise to release the fixes before Windows Vista is released . |

Thanks for the update. I wasn't trying to question the release of new versions by any means. I had just read the post in the SMS forums and I was just hoping that this jewel of a program I just found wasn't going the way of "vaporware".
Thanks again. I'll more then likely purchase a license this week.
Regards,
David |

geoff, i am a paid user and am willing to be a beta tester. if you still want to have the agressive updates maybe you could make a closed beta and invite people after having a conversation with them so you are not innundated right and left with people whining about the dev version not working. |

I haven't seen anything come out lately and was just wondering if this things was still alive. Having tested the flexmail 2007 beta, I can tell you this program beats the he@* out of it. I think you might be missing the $$ boat if you let this thing take too long to bring to a production worthy application.
If I had the source code, I would be working 25 hours a day on it, making deals with carriers, etc. It's fast, easy to use, integrates with POutlook and doesn't chew the battery up. Nothing...I repeat NOTHING works this well at the moment....the key here is...at the moment.
Good luck...hope to see something new soon.

I agree vgsmail is a VERY good start. I have purchased three copies to show my support and look forward (hopefully?) to further development. It does have a few bugs and needs addtional features.
I also agree, the time is limited. Someone will pick up the void. Hopefully the developer is working on some things in the background and we will see some new features soon!

Well, perhaps the developer will fill us in on his release dates? Please?
You have a crowd of people here who have shown support for your application both verbally and through financial contributions...even if you are a long way away from doing something, just tell us....
I know it's only $22, but I think we deserve something better than this.

This is certainly true. When FM2007 comes out everyone will go for it just because everyone already knows about WebIS (ironically, they had no idea about VGSMail..it's in their forums).
Like you, I like the concept and execution of VGS much better than FM which is overkill (and still slower) but when that goes gold I'll have to reconsider my options, like everyone else here.
Here's hoping for an update! |

Unfortunately the lack of progress/updates/bugfixes caused me to abandon my uage of vgsmail. I'm using pOutlook until something else comes along. Very disappointed in the lack of any information lately - I was a very early adopter of the program. _________________ Sprint Apache PPC-6700 |

Unfortunately, I'm now in the same boat. I've turned to the Flexmail 2007 beta for my IMAP IDLE needs. The lack of progress/updates is one thing, but the total lack of communication around here is dealbreaker -- especially given Geoff's promises that the app would undergo further development. AFAIK, Geoff hasn't even posted here in well over a month.
I've paid for VGS and I suppose I may return one day, but for now I'm pretty upset. |

Well, I must agree. I am done with this app and I feel like a fool for telling my friends about it too. Having just purchased this, I feel like disputing the charges...no wonder the trial is only three days.
It is just terrible to take money for a program that is not production worthy (with the promise of making it so) and then just plain ignoring it.
Thanks for nothing Geoff. You taught me a lesson. |
