Dear all,
Apologies for the second email in two days, I promise this will be the last one for a while. In future, I will post all updates to the following blog:
http://www.vgsmail.com/blog/
A number of questions have arisen regarding the closure of vgsmail and I thought I would answer them in one go:
1) First, as I said in my previous email, I will keep vgsmail running
for the foreseeable future. This applies particularly to large
users as they might have relatively significant credit on their
accounts which needs to be used up. I will also ensure that you
all have plenty of time to move your code over to whatever system
comes next. By 'foreseeable future', I am talking 3-6 months
timeframe. The only immediate change will be that I have stopped
taking on new users; I am going to restart accepting payments again
with the proviso that you bear this timescale in mind.
2) I have now been approached by a number of people, private and
commercial, who wish to 'take over' vgsmail. For this reason, if
you can possibly bear it, please hold fast. It is looking like
vgsmail might well continue to live on in some shape or form. I
just need to ensure that the shape and form is consistent with the
current shape and form of vgsmail.
3) If you have contacted me regarding 2), I'll get back to you ASAP.
If you do have a proposal, please contact me within the next day or
two.
Now, I shall try to get back to reading my emails. Thanks for all the nice messages!
Geoff.

Dear vgsmail user,
It is with enormous regret that I am announcing the eventual closureof vgsmail after just over two full years. The reasons for this arenumerous, but primarily due it is just taking too much of my time.
Before you start panicking:
- your account on vgsmail will remain active for the foreseeable future and so you will have plenty of time to use up any remaining credit. However, please bear in mind that eventually all accounts will be closed (if you have significant credit remaining on your account, I might be able to arrange a refund; otherwise all donations towards the last 2 years of service are welcome :).
- you will not be able to add any further credit to your account effective immediately.
- there are alternatives to vgsmail. I won't recommend any specific sites, but typing 'bulk SMS' or 'cheap SMS' into google will get you to them.
I must admit that I am slightly sad that vgsmail is now eventuallyending but also happy with the outcome of 2 years work. Thanks forall the support!
Geoff.
