The following email was sent to all users today. Archived here for future users:
Dear all,
As you'll probably be aware, vgsmail has now been running for just over a year, and I thought this would be a good opportunity to send out a quick email.
I would like to apologize to those that don't read the 'News and Updates' page (I strongly recommend that you DO) and have submitted support requests over the last few weeks. Things non-vgsmail have been rather busy recently and I've fallen dramatically behind in providing personal responses to your questions. In most cases the problems have been solved, but I just didn't get round to sending a reply. I'm going to try to go through my inbox over the next week and see what I can do.
As a way of reducing my workload, and hopefully providing you with better support, I have just installed a 'forum' at http://www.vgsmail.com/forum. This will now be the primary support mechanism for vgsmail. So please use the forum in you future requests / questions / comments, and I'll reply directly on the forum.
Hopefully repeated questions will then be avoided and give me more time to make all the changes and improvements I've been promising for the last year...
On more general topics:
- Messages are still charged at 3.8p per message to all UK
destinations. I've been getting pretty good reliability through my
preferred UK route over the last month and hopefully this will hold
up.
- I now support a rather rudimentary form of binary SMS. I'll post
details of the API on the forum if anyone is interested.
- As I commented on the News page, GenieTexter
(http://www.genietexter.co.uk/) supports vgsmail and it's a pretty
nice way of sending quick messages from your desktop.
- As usual: please introduce your friends / enemies / ... to vgsmail.
Obviously the more messages I route, the cheaper I can buy them and
the cheaper they are for you (I promise to pass on any future
savings directly).
Finally: if you're reading this email, it's because you have the 'Receive updates by email' option selected on your account. If you do you wish to receive similar emails in the future (although this is only the second message I have sent in a year), login to the web-interface, select 'Account setup' and un-select this option.

I would like to apologize to those who have emailed me over the last few weeks and have not received a response. I'm afraid I've developed a rather absurd backlog which could take a couple of weeks to clear. I do generally try to sort out any specific problems as soon as I get your emails, but responding personally takes a bit longer.
