Full service is has now been resumed. Basically it seems like there was a short powercut which resulted in the server rebooting. I have no idea why the server did not reboot in a correct state, but it has now been rebooted again and is working fine. I will look into the problem to see if I can work out what happened.

It might take a short while for the temporary DNS entry to be flushed from servers around the world, and so if http://www.vgsmail.com gets you to this page, please go to http://81.168.115.200 instead for the next few hours.

Just to fill you in on what's going on:

I am currently off-site and will not be able to access the machine directly until this evening. At present, I am not able to get into the network for some reason, and there is not a lot I can do. One of my status-checking algorithms sends out pings from my machine at regular intervals, and that does appear to be working fine which tells me that the network connection is up and the server is running. This suggests that one of my routers/firewalls has failed on me again and is rejecting inbound packets. I've asked my ISP to check if the problem is at their end, but sadly I don't think it is.

So there is a possibility that the router will self-reboot, but I doubt it. And until I get access to the machine this evening, I'm afraid there is nothing I can do from here. Sorry (and if it's any consolation, I'm sure that I am as disappointed as you are)!

I am having some connection difficulties from my current off-site location, and I am not sure what the exact issue is at the moment. I will hopefully sort this out shortly.

vgsmail will be running unattended from Saturday evening until 9th March. If something does go very wrong steps will be taken to fix it, although I am pretty confident that things will run smoothly. Credit requests and other admin questions will be dealt with, but might be delayed slightly (if you are in urgent need of an account top-up, please try to do it before Saturday).
